![]() UTICA, NEW YORK -- May 19, 1999 -- MVcars.com (www.mvcars.com), "the Mohawk Valley's Internet auto source," has experienced a significant increase in the traffic to its Web site, according to its president, Matthew Bramble. MVcars.com is an Internet automotive advertising agency that provides Web design and hosting services, consultation, and advertising. Its site offers Mohawk Valley vehicle shoppers the ability to view information and photos of its 14 local Member Dealers' vehicle inventories and access their Web sites. From February to April 1999, the site has had a 75 percent increase in visitors; 99 percent increase in pages viewed; 10 percent increase in average time of visit; 114 percent increase in the number of vehicle searches; and 184 percent increase in the number of vehicles seen on the site. During the month of April, 2,469 vehicles were viewed on the MVcars.com alone, and a total of 4,553 when results from the Member Dealers' sites are included. Each vehicle view represents the end result of a visitor searching for a specific vehicle according to their own specific criteria. Additionally, the MVcars.com site served a total of 10,714 pages to visitors who spent an average of just under 6 minutes viewing not only vehicles, but also other auto-related information. Bramble attributes the increase in traffic to a combination of increased local advertising, ongoing public relations efforts, and increased Internet use for vehicle shopping. "The Internet rapidly is becoming the primary place where consumers are gathering information, and finding the vehicle that they desire," he said. "The increase in traffic to MVcars.com indicates that more and more people in the Mohawk Valley are using MVcars.com as a resource when they're planning to buy a car or truck." Bramble said that he expects this tremendous level of growth to continue, particularly with MVcars.com's recent agreement with Yahoo!, a leading global Internet media company, to distribute vehicle inventory listings to Yahoo! Autos. Other features that soon will be added to the MVcars.com include free Internet auto classifieds; Member Dealer vehicle specials in online inventory; and co-promotions with Internet service providers to add awareness of the service and expand its base of Member Dealers. "Being successful on the Internet is a lot more difficult than many people believe," Bramble said. "The successful dealers are the ones that are committed to making it work, and have hired a knowledgeable and qualified agency to represent them. This is hard for them because for the most part they don't understand the medium, and too many companies out there are selling Internet services as if they were snake oil." MVcars.com's 14 Member Dealers are seeing the effects of the increased traffic as it relates to their business. Dave Palladino, Internet Sales Manager at C. Weaver Chevrolet in New York Mills said people not only are E-mailing, but are also calling or coming to their dealership looking for cars they have seen on the MVcars.com site. "I'm selling cars to people who mention that they came to the dealership as a result of seeing a vehicle on MVcars.com," he said. Dave attributed four sales in the past two months to E-mail inquiries, and estimates that as many as eight vehicles per month are sold with the assistance of MVcars.com. Tom Chenel, Internet Sales Manager at Skinner and Damulis in Richfield Springs, handles the dealership's Internet vehicle inquiries. "I'm getting a lot of new leads and prospects, about ten a week from MVcars.com," he said. "If you approach it the right way, it'll work for you. I follow up the leads and quickly E-mail people back." The Skinner and Damulis dealership subscribes to several national Internet services, DaimlerChrysler's "Get a Quote" and AutoWeb, in addition to the regional service, MVcars.com. Chenel said he finds the type of customer that comes from the MVcars.com site is better qualified than those who are referred by other services. "The leads that come from their site are more local and more seriously interested in shopping. They're looking for Mohawk Valley dealers," he said.
