![]() UTICA, NEW YORK -- June 10, 1997 -- Mohawk Valley residents can now browse the lots of local dealerships from the comfort of their own home. MVcars.com is introducing a new Internet service that is free to individuals and will benefit the local Internet community. The Web site (www.mvcars.com) incorporates a "search engine" that provides full color photographs, vehicle options, mileage, and pricing information for the vehicles of participating dealerships. This service was created with the intention of becoming the single source of auto-related information for the Mohawk Valley and is the first to specifically address the needs of both local dealerships and consumers. MVcars.com (Mohawk Valley Cars) represents member auto dealers by making their inventories of both new and used vehicles available to consumers by way of the Internet. The Web site incorporates a "search engine" that allows individuals to specify information about the vehicle that they would prefer, and returns information on the vehicles that match their criteria. Each listing is accompanied by a full color photograph, vehicle options, mileage, and pricing information along with information on how to contact the dealership that offers the vehicle. Although this is a commercial venture supported by participating dealerships, the site also offers comprehensive auto-related resources including a complete listing of area dealerships and auto manufacturer's Web sites, original editorials, reviews of selected automotive sites, and a discussion board which allows visitors to exchange information with one another. The key to MVcars.com is that consumers will find it both informative and easy to use while dealerships can become involved without investment in expensive Internet programming or even a computer. The company was started by Matthew Bramble, a graduate of the SUNY Institute of Technology's telecommunications program. He believes that the service will be well received by both dealerships and consumers. Currently the service represents seven dealerships, Tobin Chrysler, Plymouth, Dodge, Saab, Dick Falange Chrysler, Plymouth, Dodge, Skinner Sales and Skinner & Damulis, C. Weaver Chevrolet, Saturn of Mohawk Valley, and Len Brown Chevrolet Oldsmobile, and expectations are that it will represent about 10 dealerships by the year's end. This offering represents a new direction towards local content for the Mohawk Valley. A regional Internet offering is important for the Mohawk Valley because it gives residents the ability to find more pertinent information and thus increases the awareness of the community on the Internet. Previously, similar resources could only be found outside our area, which can translate to a loss of local business to other nearby areas with a stronger Internet presence and to companies including the likes of Microsoft, which operates its own car-buying service in conjunction with auto makers over the Internet.
